 OUR MISSION

We believe that some LGBT students have distinctive challenges that we need to help them meet head on.

Prospective college students who are LGBT sometimes have a difficult road when applying for financial aid.  43% of kids who come out to their parents are forced out of their homes, making it difficult to complete applications that require information about their parents finances.

The CDC reports that

  • LGBT youth were more likely than heterosexual youth to report high levels of bullying and substance use;

  • Students who were questioning their sexual orientation reported more bullying, homophobic victimization, unexcused absences from school, drug use, feelings of depression, and suicidal behaviors than either heterosexual or LGBT students;

  • LGBT students who did not experience homophobic teasing reported the lowest levels of depression and suicidal feelings of all student groups (heterosexual, LGB, and questioning students)

We believe that encouraging acceptance and equality and setting an example in our community, that we can increase understanding.

THE HARD TRUTH

1. To provide a scholarship yearly to a deserving senior student who is either LGBT or an Ally. It takes bravery to stand up for yourself and what you believe to be right. We need to reward these pathfinders and encourage them to forge ahead. We will take into account each applicant's academic carreer and essay in determining the recipient each year.

2. To facilitate access to community resources for LGBT youth in crisis. This can include anything from medical advice to mental health support and legal resources.

THE PROJECT

To promote equality, raise awareness, and celebrate diversity by supporting LGBT youth, allies, and families.
